Towkio is making sure the release his debut album WWW is memorable for not only his fans but for himself too. Earlier this week, the Chicago rapper announced plans to head 100,000 feet in the air to drop his debut album and on Wednesday (Feb. 21), he certainly appears to be keeping his word.
While many didn't believe Towkio would literally head into space to drop his album, the rapper shared a series videos him proving his plan was no gimmick. “Today’s the day. I love y’all,” he captioned a video him dressed in a yellow space suit with his album's logo “WWW” emblazoned on the left side his chest. Another video shows Towkio preparing for takef and he assured fans that he is “protected.”
Chance the Rapper, Towkio's longtime friend and fellow Savemoney Crew member, shared a tweet about Towkio's brave trip and gave his friend a shoutout. “THATS MY MUTHAFUCKIN BLOODA #www,” Chance wrote. Billboard obtained a text from Towkio's team thta he sent out to them before his scheduled departure. “I am solidifying my legacy. Whatever happens after today is history, make sure the world knows my story,” he wrote.
In a recent interview with DJ Booth, Towkio explained his reasoning for releasing the album in such a dramatic, symbolic way. “It’s the looking back at the earth,” Towkio told DJ Booth. “It happens to astronauts when they leave the earth and they break the plane. It’s an out–body experience. They look back and see how precious it is because your life on Earth only exists on Earth. So all the bullshit you deal with on a day-to-day basis, it instantly goes out the window when you leave the plane and you’re looking at the earth.”
