NYPD has confirmed to Billboard that Remy Ma was arrested and charged with assault on Wednesday afternoon (May 1) around 12:30 p.m. at the 13th Precinct.
TMZ reported that the 38-year-old rapper turned herself into authorities with her attorney at her side. She was then booked for a midemeanor.
The charges allegedly stem from an incident that took place at Manhattan's Irving Plaza on April 16. Love & Hip-Hop: New York star Brittney Taylor claimed that Remy Ma punched her in the face during an alleged backstage altercation at the Pretty Lou Benefit Concert. Taylor had been prepping a civil suit, but will now fully cooperate with authorities, according to her lawyer.
"This arrest demonstrates how serious this matter is, it is real life and not reality TV entertainment," Taylor's attorney, Sandford Rubenstein, said in a statement. "The victim Brittney Taylor has confidence in our system of justice and will continue to fully cooperate with the authorities."
Following the dispute, Brittney Taylor, 29, went public with what had happened to her eye in a since-deleted Instagram post last month. “So, here am I on my way to a very important meeting and it’s hard to even focus because of what occurred last night," she wrote. "I didn’t wanna bring it to social media because Its pretty embarrassing and not a good look tbh. I tried my best to cover it up with make up and move on but that still didn’t work. My Question is @remyma why did you really do this?"
The New York native remains on parole following her release from prison in 2014, state records obtained by the New York Daily News show.
Billboard has reached out to Remy Ma's reps for comment.
