Of Monsters and Men unveiled their take on Post Malone‘s “Circles” on Friday (April 10), exclusively for Amazon Music.

For their cover, the Icelandic band slows down Posty’s hit 2019 single, reinventing the track as a languid, reflective ballad tinged with regret. “We couldn’t turn it around/ ‘Til we were upside down/ I’ll be the bad guy now/ But no, I ain’t too proud/ I couldn’t be there/ Even when I try/ You don’t believe it/ We do this every time,” lead vocalist Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir sings over gently cascading piano before crashing drums and echoing electric guitar herald the arrival of the chorus.

“We recorded this version of Post Malone’s ‘Circles’ in our studio in Iceland in February,” the band said in a statement. “We are fans of Post and love the song. It’s cool how his songs can take on entirely different feelings in a new context. We are excited to share our take on the song and hope everyone can listen at home and stay safe and healthy.”

While “Circles” served as the fourth single –and second Hot 100 No. 1 — off Malone’s third studio set, Hollywood’s Bleeding, Of Monsters and Men scored a pair of Top 20 hits on the Alternative Songs chart with singles “Alligator” and “Wars” off their 2019 album Fever Dream. (The band first performed the cover live back in January for Triple J’s “Like a Version” series.)
