Lizzo decided to let Dr. Boyce Watkins have it after he comments on her body positivity message on Twitter.

On December 20, the academic and media commentator sent out a tweet assessing why Lizzo was popular.

“Lizzo popular is because there is an obesity epidemic in America,” he wrote on Twitter. “Rather than encouraging people to do better, we are simply lying to them and telling them that they are just fine the way they are.”

He added, “Unfortunately, many of these people are dying from diabetes and heart disease.”

On Monday (December 23), the pop superstar got wind of Dr. Watkins’ tweet and responded on Twitter.

“I’m popular because I write good songs and I’m talented and perform high energy hour and a half shows filled with love,” she wrote. “The only person who needs to do better is you.”

Not done with the doctor yet, she added, “Keep my name out ya mouth & look in the mirror before you come for me. Here’s the attention you ordered”

Dr. Watkins replied to the body-positive activist with a video on Twitter Tuesday (December 24).

He even threw singer-songwriter India Arie into the mix. Lizzo has yet to respond to his latest post.

Despite Dr. Watkins’ comments, the entertainer has been riding high off her Saturday Night Live debut. The episode, featuring the return of SNL alum Eddie Murphy after 35 years, became the highest-rated episode for the late-night sketch show since 2017.
