In the week of his sophomore album My Turn debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, Lil Baby stopped by The Breakfast Club to talk about his massive first week.
Co-host Charlamagne Tha God gassed him up for his first No. 1 album, saying, “I saw you say that you don’t care about numbers, but I think it’s a different ballgame when you do 200,” he said, referencing the fact that Baby earned 197,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending March 5, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. “When you do 200 first week, you gotta care about numbers a little bit.”
“Yeah, that’s what they been saying the last couple of days, but before then… I ain’t into it,” he meekly responded. However, he told co-host Angela Yee right before that he’s felt “kinda excited” the last few days after the numbers came in.
Lil Baby has shown he’s more concerned with giving back since he’s made it big, which he did earlier this month by writing a $150,000 check for the “My Turn” scholarship dedicated to kids from his former high school going off to college. “From the time I left here to now, I’ve had a crazy journey,” the 25-year-old rapper told Billboard about his trip back to Atlanta’s Booker T. Washington High School where he dropped out at grade 10. “Just to be able to come back on a positive note and actually touch this ground again and see some of these faces again… I can’t even explain it. I was once in a state where I knew for sure I wasn’t ever coming back here…. To be able to come, give back and be something, and perform for children, that means everything to me.”
