After a period of tireless begging from fans in 2018, MTV announced earlier this week that Missy Elliott would finally receive the Video Vanguard Award at the Video Music Awards on Aug. 26.
The world deemed Elliott's work to be deserving of the honor a while ago, and now that the wheels are in motion, we can't help but think about who next year's recipient will be. Even beyond that — who will MTV recognize over the course of the next decade?
Billboard recently made picks of who will be the most deserving, including Lady Gaga, who pretty much revitalized the art of videos in the late 2000s; Katy Perry, who truly takes viewers inside her own candy-colored fantasies; and Taylor Swift, who has a lengthy history with the VMAs.
But those are just a handful of the options: Take a look at some of our picks below and vote for who you believe should win the next MTV Video Vanguard Award.
