The Distillers were forced to cancel their upcoming August U.S. tour after drummer Andy Granelli severely injured his hand in a bicycle accident.

Singer Brody Dalle revealed the news on Thursday morning (Aug. 1) in an Instagram post featuring a gruesome picture of Granelli's surgically repaired hand along with a vivid description of the incident that led to the cancelation of the string of four dates, which were slated to kick off on Aug. 15 in Pittsburgh and run through an Aug. 19 gig in Asbury Park, New Jersey. They are still slated to hit the road again on Sept. 7 in Denver and play through an Oct. 24 date in Ventura, California.

"Andy was in a really bad accident a few days ago that resulted in two very deep gashes ,a broken middle finger and a concussion," Dalle wrote. "He was riding his bike down the street and a woman who was struggling with her toddler inside her car , kicked the car door open and in a split second attempt to avoid it , Andy was badly injured , his right hand taking most of the impact and requiring 40 stitches. This kind of trauma takes time to heal and unfortunately we’ve had to cancel / postpone our upcoming August American tour."

The band will, however, still take the stage for their planned slots at the Reading and Leeds festivals in the UK on, respectively, Aug. 23 and 25. "The doctor believes Andy will be healed enough in about 3.5 weeks time and that’s why we are going forth with Reading and Leeds," Dalle explained. "Hope you can understand , it’s disappointing for us to have to cancel and postpone but Andy’s hand is crucial to what he does and what we do."
