Dave Grohl joined his pals in The Bird and the Bee on Wednesday night (July 31) for a chilled-out, jazzy stroll through Van Halen's "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love." No big deal. The Foo Fighters leader moved back to the drum kit for the swinging take on the 1978 classic from the duo's self-titled album, which appears on TBATB's Interpreting the Masters Volume 2: A Tribute to Van Halen, out on Friday (Aug. 2).

With superproducer Greg Kurstin (Adele, Beck, Foo Fighters) on grand piano and singer Inara George on vocals, the band gave the rocking tune a sultry makeover, with George — dressed in a black jumpsuit with a ruffled white tuxedo dickey that matched the ones worn by the band's female backing vocalists/musicians — injecting some intense drama into the tune's lyrics about casual sex.

Grohl, of course, provided his signature bashing backbeat to the performance, following Kurstin's baroque piano solo with his own cymbal-crashing coda to wind things out. Masters features guest musicians including bassist Justin Meldal-Johnsen (known for his work with Beck and Nine Inch Nails) and drummers Joey Waronker (R.E.M., Elliott Smith) and Omar Hakim (David Bowie, Miles Davis). TBATB previously released a cover of "Hot For Teacher" featuring Beck, along with their recorded take of "Ain't Talking 'Bout Love" and a piano-fied "Panama."
