BTS’ J-Hope’s Hope World yesterday debuted on the Billboard 200 at No. 63, and today fans were graced with a brand new music video for one the album’s songs.
“Airplane” is one seven tracks on the 24-year-old’s first mixtape, released on March 1. It is an autobiographical, dreamy hip-pop song through which the BTS member, born Jung Ho-seok, waxes poetically about how his youthful dreams flying in the titular vehicle around the globe have turned into reality as a result his immense success.
The music video, released on March 6, focuses on the rapper as he reflectively delivers the inspirational and swaggering lyrics in a variety picturesque settings, with surreal visual elements such as atmospheric clouds and the nighttime sky speeding past adding to the inspirative nature “Airplane.” It is J-Hope’s second solo video, following last week’s psychedelic “Daydream.”
Within half a day release, the music video for “Airplane” had already exceeded over 4 million views on YouTube.
Hope World is the third mixtape released by a member BTS, following previous endeavors by J-Hope’s groupmates RM and Suga. Within a day its release, the mixtape broke into the Billboard 200, leading J-Hope to become the highest-ranked K-pop soloist on that chart. It also sent multiple songs — “Daydream,” “Hope World” and “Hangsang” — onto the World Digital Song Sales chart.
J-Hope recently told Time that mixtapes from other BTS' members wouldn’t be a surprise due to each individual's drive and passion for music, but at the moment the Korean septet is preparing a new album.
