Snapchat shares fell recently when Rihanna criticized a third-party ad that appeared to make light domestic violence, but Cardi B might give the app a little boost with some “Finesse” fun.
The rapper, mouthing the lyrics to “Finesse” in a colorful cap straight out the '90s ( one the app's animated lenses), shared some Snapchat love with more than 20 million Instagram followers late Friday night (March 23).
“Why this Snapchat filter so poppin tho??” she commented.
Though Cardi B's post featuring her single with Bruno Mars is lighthearted, Snapchat came under fire when an advertisement for the mobile game “Would You Rather?” gave two options, “Slap Rihanna” or “Punch Chris Brown,” referencing Brown's 2009 assault on his then-girlfriend. “All the women, children, and men that have been victims DV in the past and especially the ones who haven't made it out yet…You let us down!” Rihanna wrote on Instagram. “Shame on you. Throw the whole app-oligy away.”
The company issued an apologetic statement: “This advertisement is disgusting and never should have appeared on our service. We are so sorry we made the terrible mistake allowing it through our review process. We are investigating how that happened so that we can make sure it never happens again.”
