Bay Swag provided fans with an introspective peek into his trials and tribulations through his first ficially released single, “Saucin” to close out 2017 (Dec. 1). On Friday (March 23), the 18-year-old brings that depiction to life with the coinciding “Saucin” visual, Billboard premiere.
The LVTRKevin-directed video features recorded conversations with Bay's father, Lloyd McKenzie, who is currently serving an 85-year sentence on second-degree murder charges from 2012.
The raw video opens with a correctional facilities bus traveling into Rikers Island, before the scene pivots to an opulent Bay Swag spitting bristling rhymes at various spots his neighborhood. Diddy's sons Justin and Christian “King” Combs both make cameos flexing in designer threads throughout the clip.
The Queens, NY native detailed the inspiration behind his visual to Billboard. “Growing up in Queens, New York was rough for me. Imagine your dad getting sentenced to 85 years to life in prison as a 16-year-old, and now your family is in the hood struggling to pay the bills,” he explains. “There was no way, so I had to start rapping. When I recorded this song, I was going through a lot, so I wanted the world to see and hear my story.”
Lloyd managed to instill a love music inside his son during their time together, and his sentencing actually inspired Bay Swag to further pursue his rap career after witnessing his father collaborate with the likes A Tribe Called Quest and Swizz Beatz.
